Our plan

As Laurie and I continue to move toward selling off most of our stuff and moving aboard, I thought this would be a good time to publish a timeline of our travel plan.

Please remember that all sailing plans are tentative and are subject to frequent changes and modifications.

The boat is in Bay City and will go into the water on June 6th.  We will stay with Dan and Hayley as we clean out the house and settle our stuff on Glory Days.

On June 15th we will "cut the docklines" and begin heading north.  Our expected stops will be in Tawas, Harrisville and Presque Isle before we cross Lake Huron to the North Channel around June 20th.

We will come back to Presque Isle around July 13th for the family get together at Fireside Inn.  We will stay on the boat, but will spend a lot of time at Fireside enjoying time with family and friends.  After Fireside, we will return to the North Channel until August 9th, when we will come back to Michigan to attend a wedding in Kalamazoo.

Following the wedding, we will start heading south and east.  We will head to Lake Erie with a goal of getting to Buffalo, New York in early September.  From there we will travel through the Erie Canal to the Hudson River and on past New York City.  We would like to be in Annapolis, Maryland by the first weekend in October.  There is a big boat show in Annapolis that we would like to attend.

From Annapolis, it will be a trip down the Chesapeake Bay.  From there we will pick up the Inter-coastal Waterway at Norfolk.  We will work our way down the ICW to Florida, where we hope to be by the first part of December.  Once in Florida, we will continue south until we are ready to cross to the Bahamas.  I expect to be in the Bahamas in early January.

From the Bahamas, we will work East and South to the Turks and Cacaos, the Dominican Republic, and on to the Virgin Islands and points south. The ultimate goal is to get to Granada by June 1st, 2013, with a plan of leaving the boat there for a while and coming back to Michigan for parts of July and August.

We will use this blog and Facebook to help people keep track of where we are and what we are doing.  Postings will depend on Internet access.
